Caroline Brackelsberg Ackert
March 26, 1919 – Aug. 30, 2010

MOHALL – Caroline Brackelsberg Ackert, 91, of Owen Sound, Ont., Canada, formerly of Mohall; died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at an Owen Sound assisted living facility.

Caroline was born March 26, 1919, in Tolley, to Carl and Elsie (Redepenning) Goetsch.  She was raised in the Tolley area and graduated from Tolley High School.

Caroline and Roy Brackelsberg were united in marriage on Dec. 9, 1937, in Tolley.  They lived on a farm near Mohall where they raised their three children, Marlo, Wanda and Ona.  In 1951, they purchased a home and moved into Mohall.  They bought a winter home in Mesa, Ariz., and spent many winters there.  Roy died Oct. 23, 1987.

Caroline was united in marriage to Raynard Ackert on March 16, 1988, in Mesa, where they both spent their winters for many years.  They moved to Raynard’s home in Port Elgin, Ont., and later they resided in Owen Sound, Ont.  With Caroline’s move to Ontario, she was adopted into a new family of two more children, six grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that now total 13, whom she loved as her own.

When she lived in North Dakota, Caroline was active in Eastern Star and was presented her 50 year pin in April of 2004.  Caroline served the Mohall chapter as Worthy Matron in 1966 and was responsible for starting several new programs.  She served the Grand Chapter of N.D. as Grand Marshal in 1969-1970.  She also served the Grand Chapter as a Grand Representative of Alberta in 1971-1973.  She always stayed in touch with Naomi Chapter #55 of Mohall. 

Caroline was an active member at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall, Junior Dames (GFWC women’s club), and the local theater group where she enjoyed parts in several productions.  She never missed a chance to dress in costume for a party whether in North Dakota or at her home in Canada.  Caroline was loved and will be missed by her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family:  husband, Raynard Ackert, Owen Sound, Ont.; son, Marlo (Carolyn) Brackelsberg; daughter, Wanda (Gerald) Emerson, all of Mohall; daughter, Ona Watkins, Dickinson; son, Ernest (Bonnie) Ackert, Port Elgin, Ont.; daughter, June (Rob) Shouldice, Shallow Lake, Ont.; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy; three brothers, two sisters, and son-in-law, Jerry Watkins.

Memorial service:  Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, 2:30 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall
