Clarence CarlsonANTLER – Clarence S. Carlson, 86, rural Maxbass, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at a Mohall nursing home.

Clarence S. Carlson was born to Carl and Anna (Hanson) Carlson on October 19, 1921 near Antler, and grew up on the family farm northwest of Maxbass.

He was involved in 4-H and showed cattle at the Bottineau county fair, and the State Fair.  He was proud of showing his Hereford cattle.  He graduated from Maxbass High School and worked for Waterman Implement of Minot for a short time.

He was united in marriage to Irene Pankow on December 14, 1952, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Butte, ND.  They lived and farmed in Hastings Township, Bottineau County, where he raised small grain crops, sheep, and Hereford cattle.  He served for many years as a supervisor on the Hastings Township Board, served on the Maxbass Fire Protection District Board, director on the Upper Souris Irrigation District board, the Bottineau County FmHA Board, and the Bottineau County Farm Bureau board.  Clarence was proud of his Norwegian ancestry, and in 1978, he and Irene went to Norway to visit many relatives. 

Family:  Those who shared in his life, his wife of 55 years, Irene; son, Paul (Elaine) Carlson, rural Maxbass; grandchildren, Shari and Andrew Carlson; sister, Heriete Hansen, Arlington Heights, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Service:  Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Antler.

Burial:  Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church Cemetery, rural Antler

Memorials:  Memorials preferred to Willing Workers Ladies Aid of Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church of Antler, Child Evangelism Fellowship, or an organization of the donor’s choice.
