He was born October 23, 1923 in San Diego, CA, to Jacob and Gertrude (Bryans) Carlson.  The family moved to Grano where he was raised and attended school for ten years.  He graduated from Mohall High School in 1941 and attended the Wahpeton State School of Science.

An involved individual, Glen was a past president of the Renville-Bottineau Agricultural Improvement Association where he received the RBAIA Soil Conservation District award, and was a member of the Lansford Development Corporation and a charter member of the Lansford Threshermen and Historical Associations.  He was active in heading up the Lansford Threshing Show every summer.  He was a member of the Lansford Fire Department, past master and also served as secretary and treasurer of the Lansford Masonic Lodge.  Last week, Glen received his Lifetime Achievement and 60 Year Membership awards for Freemasonry.  Glen was a member of the Lansford Order of Eastern Star, where he was a Worthy Patron and was a past Worthy Grand Parton of the Order of Eastern Star in North Dakota in 1987.  He also served on the Lansford School Board and Callahan Township Board.  He served on the Lansford Cemetery board and spearheaded the effort to place a flagpole and reflecting benches at the cemetery.  Glen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grano, and later the Lansford United Methodist Church where he served as chairman for many years.  He took great pride in the Grano Methodist Church after it was moved to the Threshing Grounds in Lansford.

Glen’s hobbies included bowling, golfing, hunting, and fishing, restoring and collecting antique cars, tractors and caterpillars.  He looked forward to driving them in parades.    Glen learned to fly a plane in 1943 and received his private license.  Many summer weekends were spent at the family cabin on Lake Metigoshe.  They spent many winters in Mesa, AZ, where he was on a bocce ball team.  They enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
