Hannah Fossum

MOHALL
– Hannah “Joey” Josephine Fossum, 94, of Mohall, died Tuesday, September 30,
2008, at a Mohall nursing home.
Hannah was born July 19, 1914 to Ole and Olivia (Klefsaas) Brudvik of Mohall. She grew up in Mohall and graduated from Mohall High School. She took a business course at Minneapolis Business College and then went to work for the Mohall Agricultural Stabilization Committee (ASC) Office for five years.
On January 1, 1941, Hannah married Vernon Hector Fossum in Mohall. Together they operated Vernie’s Café for 26 years. She also was Mohall’s Treasurer in 1956 and was appointed Mohall’s City Auditor in 1959, holding that position until 1978. She was the Selective Service Clerk beginning in 1960, Secretary/Treasurer for the Mohall Ambulance Service, the Mohall Park Board, the Mohall Fireman and the Mohall Cemetery Board until her retirement in 1978.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall, where she taught Sunday School for four years, served as President of the Ladies Aid and belonged to the ELCA Women’s Circle. She was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Senior Citizens Club and served as its treasurer for eight years.
Hannah’s interests included bingo, bridge, needlework and crocheting, reading and homemaking. She was a member of several Bridge Clubs, Sewing Club, Mohall Homemakers, Eastern Star, Coterie Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Family: daughters, Kathy (Roger) Gustafson, Rochester, MN; and Linda Fossum, Hagerstown, MD; step granddaughter, Miriam (Joel) Gustafson, great-grandsons, Cyrus and Eric “Axel” Abrahamson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Hannah was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; parents, brothers, Oscar, Gilbert, Ray and Arthur Brudvik; and sister, Helen Johnson.
Funeral: Saturday, October 4, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall
Burial: Mohall Community Cemetery
