Louise Vaagen

CARPIO
– Louise Vaagen, 93, of Kenmare and formerly of Carpio; died Tuesday, Sept.
30, 2008, at a Kenmare hospital.
She was born July 30, 1915 in Callahan Township, Renville County, to Sam and Hester (Lewis) Swift. She attended Callahan School #1 and graduated from Carpio High School. She helped her parents on the farm milking cows and other various farm chores.
She was united in marriage to Albin Vaagen October 20, 1939 at her parent’s home. They farmed in Callahan Township until moving to Albin’s grandfather’s farm in Plain Township, Renville County. Albin died in 1968.
Louise farmed with her brother-in-law, Joseph Vaagen, for several years. Louise cared for Joseph for four years before his death in 1993. She resided at the Baptist Home in Kenmare since September of 2007.
Louise was a member of Carpio Lutheran Church, the WELCA and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Carpio Senior Citizens. Although Louise had no children of her own, she touched the lives of many children through her loving and caring personality. She was an avid volunteer helping with ceramics and needlework for the Trinity Hospital Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Elwin Swift.
Funeral: Friday, October 3, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Carpio Lutheran Church
Burial: Nazareth Cemetery, rural Carpio
