He was born March 22, 1929, in Mohall, to Frank and Selma (Anderson) Baska.  He attended school in Mohall and graduated from Mohall High School in 1947.  He assisted his father in the operation of a commercial truck and bus line.

Marvin entered the U.S. Army in 1951.  He served a total of two years; nine months of that time were spent in the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged in 1952.

Marvin married Ruth Peterson on January 31, 1954 at the Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Antler.  They made their home in Mohall where they raised their three children.  Marv and Ruth purchased the truck line from his father and named it M&R Transfer.  They operated the business until 1968 when Marv became a law enforcement officer.  He was the policeman for the City of Mohall, deputy sheriff, and later appointed the Sheriff of Renville County.  Marv worked for the City of Mohall as the manager of the Water Treatment Plant until his retirement in 1995.

Marv was a member of the United Methodist Church, Mohall, and the Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Antler.  He was a lifetime member of the Mohall Fire Department and the George T. Taylor American Legion Post #25, Mohall.  He was a licensed ham radio operator since 1972.  Marv loved the outdoors; he spent his free time hunting, fishing and camping.

Family:  children, Bruce (Jill) Baska, Mohall; Connie (James) Aberle, rural Norwich; and Gail Baska, Mohall; four grandchildren; brother, Miles Baska; sister, Hazel Mahoney; and several nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth; brother, Maurice; and his sisters, Helen Swanson and Harriet Andersen.

Funeral:  Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Antler

Family Service:  Wednesday, January 13, at 7:00 p.m. at Brose Funeral Home, Mohall
