Melvin Braun
He was born April 6, 1934 in Glen Ullin, ND, to Walter and Ida (Shelley) Braun. He was raised in Hawley, graduated from Hawley High School, and attended the North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo. He entered the U.S. Army in November of 1956 and served as an SP4 with the Headquarters & Headquarters Company 307th Engineering Battalion. He also received his Jump Wings with the 82nd Airborne. He received his honorable discharge in November of 1958. He returned to Hawley and worked at a creamery and later for the railroad. He also worked in the construction field which brought him to Rolla. He married Betty Barron in 1967, in Rolla. They briefly lived in Valley City where he worked at a dairy in that area. They moved to Mohall in 1968 where he worked at several locations including, Peavey Elevator, City of Mohall, in the oilfield for 20 plus years, the Haarsager farm and Gates Manufacturing. Melvin didn’t like to sit still; he was always working. Melvin was a member of the George T. Taylor American Legion Post #52 and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Family: wife, Betty; daughter, Lori Braun, Osnabrock; son, James Braun, Grand Forks; grandson, Austin Braun; brothers and sisters, Harlow (Marlys) Braun, Moorhead, MN; Patricia Vesperman, Fargo; Eldon (Shirley) Braun, Tucson, AZ; Richard (Kelsey) Braun, Fertile, MN; Eldeine (David) Kaldor, Moorhead, MN; Robert (Barb) Braun, Plymouth, MN; Tim (Claudia) Braun, Lakeville, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. Funeral: Monday, November 22, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall Burial: Mohall Community Cemetery Family Service: Sunday, 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
