Stuart Schoenberg

Stuart SchoenbergMOHALL – Stuart Lynn Schoenberg, 52, of Mohall; died Friday, January 4, 2008 at a Minot hospital.

He was born June 29, 1955 in Mohall to Vernon and Verna (Skaufel) Schoenberg.  Stuart had a happy childhood growing up on the family farm with his two brothers, Dean and Sheldon, and his two sisters, Michelle and Tina.

Stuart attended Mohall public school, and was an active member of the FFA, participating in local and district events.  His FFA swine project earned him enough money to buy his first car.

In the summer of his junior year of high school, Stuart worked for Mattern and Mohagen Cement Co., pouring cement floors, sometimes late into the night.  He graduated from Mohall High School in 1973.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1973 and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  He received his advanced individual training for automotive repair at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD, where he graduated with honors.  He was a heavy equipment mechanic assigned to Company C, 704th Maintenance Battalion, stationed at Ft. Carson, CO.

He was honorably discharged in 1976 and moved to Dallas, TX, where he worked for a carpenter and plumbing firm, and later as a heavy equipment and truck mechanic.  He also ran a small engine repair business out of his garage.

He was once married to Deborah Dupree of Dallas, TX, whom he married on June 17, 1978.  They have two daughters, Heather Kaylynn and Chelsea Ayn.

In the late 1990’s, he would return during the summers to help on the family farm.  Later, with the help of his father, he returned permanently and started a farming operation of his own.  He continued his farming operation until his death.

Stuart was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall.  During his younger years, he was active with the youth group, Luther League.  He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing and collecting medieval swords and knives.

Those who shared in Stuart’s life:  daughters, Heather (Jeremiah) Purviance, Irving, TX; Chelsea Schoenberg, Terrell, TX; former wife, Deborah Stephens, Terrell, TX; parents, Vernon and Verna Schoenberg, Mohall; brothers, Dean (Beth) Schoenberg and Sheldon (Diane) Schoenberg, all of Mohall; sisters, Michelle Schoenberg and her husband, John Carton, Minot; Tina (Bill) Ueckert, Bismarck; and several nieces and nephews.

Stuart was preceded in death by his grandparents, Birger and Ruth Skaufel, and Louis and Louise Schoenberg.

Funeral:  Thursday, January 10, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall

Family Service:  Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home

Burial:  McKinney Cemetery, rural Tolley, in the spring
