Verneil Bingham
February 4, 1924 – December 29, 2009

MOHALL – Verneil Bingham, 85, Mohall, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at a Mohall nursing home.

Verneil was born February 4, 1924 in Rolla, a daughter of Wilfred and Lillian (Gardner) Johnston.  She attended Rolla Public School and graduated in 1942.

She married Edward Bingham, of Leeds, on April 24, 1943, in Austin, TX.  The first of the couple’s four children, Jill, was born in Rolla.

Following Edward’s return from military service during WW II, the couple lived in Grand Forks where their second child, Sally, was born.  In 1952, they moved to Mohall where their next two children, Lynn and Bonnie were born.

In 1969, Verneil and Edward purchased and operated the hardware store in Mohall that they had been managing.  Following Edward’s death in a plane crash while returning from a fishing trip in Canada, she continued to operate the hardware store until the mid 1970s.

Verneil, following her longtime dream of becoming a nurse, received her Certified Nursing Assistant certification.  She worked at the Good Samaritan Society nursing home in Mohall until 1995 when a brain tumor and treatment stole her strength.  She became a resident of the nursing home in 1995,

Verneil was a member of the United Methodist Church, Mohall, the Naomi Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, and the American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed working on her house, yard and lake cabin.

Family:  children, Jill (Larry) Legault, Dayton, OH; Sally (Richard) Reiten, Minot; Lynn (Kathie) Bingham, Grand Forks; and Bonnie Bingham, Colorado Springs, CO; three grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; brother, Byron (Sonny) Johnston, Rolla; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Verneil was preceded in death by her husband, son, James; parents; sister, Shirley Johnston; and brothers, Melbourne, Bernard, Jack and James Johnston; and great-granddaughter, Chelsey.

Funeral:  Saturday, January 2, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the Good Samaritan Society nursing home, Mohall

Burial:  Mohall Community Cemetery, in the spring

Memorials:  Preferred to the Good Samaritan Society, Mohall, Mohall Methodist Church, Mohall EMS Services of the donor’s choice
