Robert Thomas Lawson, 48, of Velva, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at a Minot hospital.
Robert was born November 2, 1972, in Minot, to John Leon Lawson and Debra Booth (Lawson) Sanderson. Robert was raised in Haines, Alaska, and graduated from Haines High in 1991. After graduation, Robert served his mission with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Provo South Mission, Utah, from 1991 to 1993. It was also during this time Robert enlisted into the Army National Guard and was a proud soldier for 32 years.
During his military service, Robert proudly served his country on a deployment in Iraq in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II from December 2003 to March 2005 with the CO B 141
st
Engineer Battalion. Following his deployment, Robert was awarded a Bronze Star Medal in 2005. After his deployment, Robert served as an Alaska State Trooper from 2006-2014.
In 2014, Robert and his family returned to North Dakota in which time he was a Field Supervisor with Baker Hughes, Chemical Well Division from 2014-2019. In 2019 Robert was employed as a Supervisor with Aggregate Construction, Inc. until time of death. Robert loved his family and proudly served his country, ending his service as a Master Sergeant. Robert lived his life to the fullest.

Lawson, 9; stepdaughter, Mikaila Jade Ramirez Santos; sons, Christopher (Zoya) Lawson, Kenai, AK, Bradley Lawson, Fargo, Robert B. Lawson, 12, Thomas J. Lawson, 7, grandchildren, Everly and Kallen Capener, Boise, ID, McKenna, Addison and Willow Butts, Mandeville, LA; mother, Debra (Bruce) Sanderson, Sawyer; father, John (Jacqueline) Lawson, Edinberg; siblings, Thomas (Sina) Lawson, Milton, Lea (Chad) Atterton, Surrey; grandmother, Dolores Booth, Sawyer; aunt, Susan (Jeff) Hill, Sawyer; uncle, John (Jane) Booth, Grand Junction, CO; aunt, Norma (Webster) Ruble, Gresham, OR; and his former wife and mother of his eight children, Heather (Harp) Lawson.
Robert was preceded in death by:
his grandfather, Robert Booth; grandparents, Thomas and Iola Lawson.
Funeral:
1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Minot (South location). Mask wearing is mandatory. A video of the service will be linked to his online obituary after the service.
Burial:
3:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Velva Cemetery, Velva.
