SHERWOOD - Cheryl Vivian Miller, 78, Sherwood, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at St. Vincent's Nursing Home in Bismarck, surrounded by family.
Cheryl was born on June 4, 1945, at St. Joseph Hospital in Minot, the daughter of Louis and Vivian (Bernsdorf) DesLauriers, of Sherwood.  She lived on a farm in rural Prosperity Township, and attended grade school and high school in Sherwood, graduating from Sherwood High School in 1963.
She attended NDSU in Fargo for two years, majoring in Home Economics, but transferred to Minot State College in 1966 to major in Elementary Education.  She graduated from Minot State in the spring of 1967, and signed a contract with Kenmare School, where she taught second grade for two years.  The following years, she taught at Minot Air Force Base and Sunnyside Elementary School.
Terry Miller asked Cheryl to the prom when she was a freshman.  She said yes, and they went to three more proms together.  She married Terry on November 4, 1967, and they remained married for 56 years while living in Sherwood.  She taught kindergarten, elementary grades, and high school Home Economics before retiring from teaching in 2008.  She received a plaque from the administration for "Teacher, Educator, Extraordinaire" upon retiring.  After retiring, they spent ten years traveling the country.
Her favorite hobby was growing flowers in her gardens and flower pots.  She loved sitting on the deck in early mornings during the summer watching birds, flowers, and hummingbirds.
Cheryl was the president of St. James Christian Mothers for many years, and served as the secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.
She loved her children and grandchildren, and was an excellent cook and baker of all sorts of goodies, especially banana bread!  Terry and Cheryl were the parents of six boys and one girl, and all of their children went to college and became successful adults.
