Clarice Ione "Tess" Yale, 97, Mohall, died Friday, April 21, 2023, at a Mohall nursing home.
She was born May 18, 1925, in Ivanhoe Township to Axel and Zelpha (Clark) Hedberg.  She was raised on a farm near Greene. She attended grade school in Ivanhoe and Callahan Townships, and high school at Tolley and Minot Model, graduating valedictorian of her class at Minot Model. She attended Minot State Teachers College, received a standard teaching certificate, and taught one year of school in Grassland Township.
She was united in marriage to Harold "Sonny" Yale, Jr., on December 9, 1944.  They farmed and had milk cows for many years in Grassland Township, Renville County.  They moved to The View in Minot in 2008.  Sonny died May 8, 2011.  Tess entered the Good Samaritan Society nursing home in Mohall in 2018.
Tess was active in Messiah Lutheran Church at Greene, participating in the ladies aid group, teaching Vacation Bible School, assisting in and organizing Christmas programs and helping sew and assemble quilts with the quilting group.  She will be remembered for her gardening, canning, seamstress skills, jean patching, and cooking, especially her potato salad. She had a knack for always being able to throw together a complete dinner (often on a moment's notice) for whomever happened to be at the farm at dinner time. She loved having a completely full house for the holidays. A good number of the grandkids will cherish fond memories of spending many weekends and lots of summer days with "Gramma Tess" at the farm, because it didn't matter how loud and rowdy they got (as long as they were down in the basement!) Tess had a subtle sense of humor, but was also skilled at using subtlety to impart wisdom and encouragement to others without being judgmental or critical. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who are old enough to remember her will hopefully cherish and carry forward these character traits in their own lives.
