WESTHOPE – Curtis Wayne Huber, 78, rural Maxbass, died Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at a Minot hospital.
He was born January 19, 1945, in Westhope, the 11th of 12 children born to Chauncey "Chance" and Greeta (Koons) Huber.  He was raised and lived most of his life on the Huber farm, near Maxbass.
He graduated from Maxbass High School in 1964, received a B.A. degree in business administration from Minot State College, and a mechanical engineering degree from the Commercial Trade Institute of Chicago.  He served in the U.S. Army and did a tour of duty in Vietnam.  While there, he traveled to Australia for some rest and relaxation.
In the spring of 1977, Curt became a part, and later sole, owner of The Huber's Candak Lounge in Westhope for 45 years.  His employees and customers became his family and friends.
For years, he raised a big garden, canned vegetables, made pickles, jam and choke cherry wine.  He was a good cook and made lots of bakes goods and bread.  He built bird houses, liked to hunt and go camping at Mouse River Park.
Curtis was the last of 12 children to pass on.  He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marion (Alice Lesmann) Huber, Herb (Edith Downs) Huber, Ershel (Borghild Floberg) Huber, Ivan Huber, Jerry Huber, Charles (Ella Ray Kerley) Huber, Chauncey "Mick" Huber and Keith Huber; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirlemae (Chuck) Beverly, Charlotte (Bob) Coleman and Cherilyn (Bob) Waldron; nephews, Terry and Ronald Huber, and Scott Coleman; nieces, Heidi Coleman Fouhy and Cherie Huber Gaitan; and great-niece, Renae Huber.
Graveside service: 3:30 p.m., Friday, September 15, 2023, at the Westhope Cemetery.
