LANSFORD - Curtis Allan Talley, 85, Lansford, died Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at a Minot hospital.
He was born on July 23, 1936, in Glenburn, to Joe and Marie (Mosolf) Talley. He was raised on a farm in Glenburn until 1939, when they moved to a farm in Bottineau County, and then moved to the Talley Farm in Bottineau County a couple of years after that. The Talley's raised beef, horses and farmed. He graduated from Lansford High School in 1955 and attended Minot State for two years.
After college, he worked for Mobile Oil Company from 1959-1966. Curtis became the postmaster in Lansford in 1966 and served in that capacity until 1998. He was awarded the Hall of Honor Award from the U.S. Post office in 1995.
Curt married Janice Lenore Undlin on July 12, 1959, in Lansford. To this union three children were born, Brent, Geneil and Gwen. Curt and Janice have been married for 62 years.
Curt and his brothers and friends were part of the Ghostriders Horse Performance Show in the mid 1950's. His mother helped with their outfits, but the brothers taught their horses different tricks to do in the performance shows. He belonged to the American Quarter Horse Association.
He helped his brother, Jim, raise Quarter Horses and spent many years working with colts and breaking young horses. He studied many different techniques in breaking horses with always a gentle hand in the process.
Curtis was a member of the Trinity United Church, Lansford, and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansford. He served on the church council, Luther League Advisor, and Sunday school teacher.
He was also deeply involved in the Lansford Community. He served on the Lansford City Council from 1961-1973, Lansford Municipal Judge from 1975-1987, a member of the Masonic Lodge, was part of the Lansford Bowling Association for 35 years, secretary of the Lansford Community Club for 30 years, a member of the Senior Citizens, the Moose Club, Minot, and the Lansford Country Club. He also kept the scoreboard for 25 years at the Lansford High School. In his later years after retirement, he worked on the Lansford Baseball field so they could have games at that facility again.
Curt and Janice had six God Children, Julie Undlin Munday, Roy Leavitt, Suzie Lielke Melin, Candy Bengtson, Stuart Larson and Stephanie Talley Bennis.
Curt loved being around his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and took great pride in all their accomplishments in sports and academics. He loved talking horses and sports. He remembered games from many decades and just found joy in life. Because of a heart defect, he could not play sports, but that did not stop him from loving baseball, basketball, and football. He also grew to love track because of his grandson, Alex Talley, being a standout athlete at West Fargo, NDSU and now a Nebraska Cornhusker, and finishing seventh in the Olympic trials this past winter in hammer throw.
