CARPIO - Darrel Jerome Block, 88, Carpio, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024, at a Minot hospital, surrounded by his family.
Darrel was born April 12, 1936, to Alton and Blanche (Connelly) Block in Callahan Township, Renville County.  When he was one year old, his mother passed away and he went to live with his Uncle William and Aunt Alice (Block) Lewis, who raised him with care during his younger years.  When he was 11, his father remarried so he went back to live with  him and his stepmother, Lillian (Olson) Block.  During those early years he attended a little country school close to the farm in Callahan Township through the 8th grade, after which he continued his education on the farm working the land.
On March 18, 1960, Darrel was united in marriage to Sandra Larson.  To this union, four children were born, Craig, Judy, Scott and Shane.  With the growing family, it was decided to move his family to Ivanhoe township and establish the Block Farmstead in 1967.  They resided there until his health caused him to move to Somerset Court in Minot this past fall.
He once owned and operated Block Trucking, hauling loads for area elevators as well as area farmers.  He drove semi for Donny Knecht for a time, also.  After retiring from farming his own land, he continued turning soil for James Vendsel.  When not farming, you could find him at area auctions or in his shop restoring classic cars, trucks and old tractors to look like new.  He was an avid hunter.  He also used his skill to build things from scratch, from machinery to help around the farm, to a toy for his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed spending time watching his grandkids in whatever activity they were involved in.
Darrel was a member of Lansford Threshers, board member of the Greene Elevator and Grano Cemetery, member of Moose Lodge 822, and a member of the Greene Lutheran Church as well as Carpio Lutheran Church.
Family: Darrel is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sandra Block, Carpio; children, Craig Block, Minot, Judy (Richard Relph) Block, Austin, TX, Scott (Amy) Block, Carpio, Shane (Kari) Block, West Fargo; grandchildren, Tyler (Kelsey) Hunter, Sophia Ranous, Matthew Block, Zachary Block, Dillon Block, Ethan Block, Bailey Block; great-grandchildren, Ayden, Alayna, and Bryson Hunter; half-sister, Sharon Block, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
