MOHALL – Deanna Faye Olson, 62, Mohall, died Monday, August 3, 2026, at her home. She was born November 3, 1963, in Cando, to Harlan and Judith (Bjornson) Reed. She was raised in Edgeley, and in 1980, moved to Maddock. She graduated from Maddock High School in 1982. She attended Minot State University majoring in nursing, then transferred to Jamestown State College where she graduated May 23, 1987, with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Deanna was united in marriage to Todd Olson on June 14, 1986, at Peace Lutheran in Fargo. They lived at the farm north of Maddock. In June of 1987, she began working as a registered nurse in the ICU and prenatal wings at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. July 1, 1990, she began working in the ICU and critical care units at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake.
In 1999, the family moved to Dubuque, IA, while Todd attended the seminary. Deanna worked at Medical Associates Clinic in Dubuque. In 2003, they moved to Inwood, IA, and she worked at Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital, just across the river in Canton, SD. In 2004, the family returned to Dubuque where she worked in telemarketing and later at a nursing home in Cuba City, WI. It was there that she fell in love with caring for patients in a nursing home setting.
The family moved to Mohall in July of 2005 when her husband was called as a pastor at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall. Deanna worked at the Kenmare Community Clinic, then in 2007, became fulltime at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Mohall. In 2017, she retired after a diagnosis of primary progressing aphasia, a form of early onset dementia. She spent the last few years at home under the care of her husband and family friends.
Deanna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall, and the WELCA. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as a District Vice President. She enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren, traveling, knitting, reading, listening to music (especially Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire), shopping and adding to her collection of stuffed bears.
