SHERWOOD - Dorothy Irene (Lakefield) Knutson, 88, Sherwood, went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 25, 2020.
She was born to George and Cora (Armstrong) Lakefield on May 8, 1931, on the family farm. She grew up on their farm near Sherwood and graduated from Sherwood High School in 1949. One week after her high school graduation, she married her lifetime sweetheart, Trygve Knutson, on June 5, 1949, in Sherwood. Trygve lovingly called her "his bride" thereafter. Together, Trig and Dorothy raised six children besides babysitting for several grandchildren and neighbors. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Dorothy enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and cooking and baking with her best friend Eunice Kosel. It was not unusual for Dorothy to sew all night to make sure one of her children had a special outfit for the next day. Dorothy also worked at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home for many years as a CNA and also in activities.
Dorothy was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. Dorothy felt her calling in life was to ensure that her family and those that crossed her path knew the message of salvation and the love of a personal relationship with Christ. Not only did she spread the "Good News" through Sunday school teaching, she lived by example and encouraged her family to seek strength and wisdom through prayer.
Family: Dorothy is survived by her children, Brenda (Dick) Johnson, Dunseith, Cheryl Knutson and Cindy Cooper, both of Bismarck, Greg Knutson, Thornton, CO, Tim (Gail) Knutson, Sherwood, and Sheri Knutson, Sundance, WY; grandchildren, David Johnson, Jennifer Penner, Kimberly Cooper, Kaitlin Sisk, Emily Sondrol, Taylor Knutson, Josh Herigstad, Ryan Herigstad, Jesse Halstengaard and Sheyenne Halstengaard; five great-grandchildren, Christian Kelly, Kaleb Cooper, Zoie Austin, Kamden and Koen Sisk; and one great-great-granddaughter, Ariya Kelly; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Houmann, Sun City, AZ, and Thelma Nelson, Fargo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by: her husband of 67 years, Trygve, who died December 10, 2016; her parents, George and Cora Lakefield, and an infant brother.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood.
Burial: Sherwood Union Cemetery, Sherwood, in the spring.
Family Service: 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2020, at the funeral home.
Visitation: 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, at Brose Funeral Home, Mohall.
