MAXBASS – Edward Fredrick Benson, 91, Maxbass, died Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at a Stanley nursing home.
He was born June 8, 1931, in Mount Rose Township, Bottineau County, rural Maxbass, to Ernest and Ethel (Streich) Benson.  He attended school at Mount Rose Township School and Maxbass High School.
Ed and Marlene Olson, of Minot, dated for two years prior to their marriage on September 11, 1952.  They spent the winter with his grandpa Streich then went to work for Johnny Machaney in the spring.  Their daughter, Debbie, was born at this time.  That fall, Ed went to work for Cook & Keup turkey farm.  Their son, David, was born in the winter of 1954.  In the winter and spring of '56 and '57, they lived in Marysville, WA.  They moved back and Ed continued working for Cook & Keup.
They purchased their farm in 1956 from Les and Elma Hoff and moved to the farm in 1957.  In August of '57, Ed began working for Cardinal Petroleum Company.  His work with the oil company took him and his family to Roundup, MT, and Plentywood, MT.  They returned to the farm in 1966 and he continued to work on the oil rigs.  Ed was known as Mr. Clean on the oil rigs.  They also worked cattle as Marlene raised the three children.
In the 1970s, Ed and Marlene became empty-nesters.  They enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, China, Singapore, and cruising in the Caribbean and Alaska.
Ed was a member of English Lutheran Church, Maxbass, and also served on the church council.  He served on the Renville Township board and also the Renville Township Cemetery board.
Family: wife, Marlene Benson; children, Deborah (Gary) Huber, Minot, David Benson, Elk City, ID; son-in-law, Dale Gardiner, Brandon, Manitoba; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Edward was preceded in death by: his parents, Ernest and Ethel Benson; daughter, Connie Gardiner; granddaughter, Renae Huber; brother, Gene (Helen) Benson; sister, Iona Roder; and in-laws, Myrtle Reardon and Raymond Olson.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at English Lutheran Church, Maxbass.
Burial: Renville Township Cemetery, rural Maxbass, in the spring.
