SHERWOOD – Grace Yvonne "Gracie" Thompson, 87, Minot, formerly of Sherwood and Berthold, died Monday, April 22, 2024, at a Minot hospital.
She was born April 1, 1937, in Velva, to J. Leonard and Hilda (Johnson) Erickson, of Ruso.  She lived on two farms during her growing-up years:  first, east of Ruso; and then, at age 5, 2.5 miles north of Ruso.  She attended rural school near the farm.  She attended Dakota Lutheran High School for three years, and then attended Velva High School where she graduated in 1955.  Grace attended Minot State Teachers College and became a teacher at a rural school west of Sherwood.
Grace was united in marriage to Dennis Thompson on April 26, 1958.  They lived in the Sherwood area and Grace was employed at the Good Samaritan Society nursing home, and also MTI, both in Mohall.  Dennis died on August 13, 2008.  She then moved to Berthold.
Grace was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at First Lutheran Church, Ruso.  She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood, and was involved with the church choir and the women of the church.  In Berthold, she became a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the senior citizens, and quilting clubs, the "Frayed Squares" and "Berthold Ecumenical Quilting."
Gracie loved to sing; she sang at many weddings, funerals and other gatherings.  She enjoyed handwork, quilting, embroidery work and crocheting.  She was a loyal fan of the Minnesota Twins.
Family: daughter, Kari Thompson, Minot; daughter, Karla Herigstad, Minot, and her children, Matthew Herigstad and Lana (Andrew) Wonser, and their children, Aidan and Parker Wonser; daughter, LeAnn (Justin) Pollman, Sherwood, and their child, Brianna Young; daughter, Lynne (Jerry) Hennessy, Des Lacs, and their children, Dylan Hennessy, Clancy (Jordan) Bauman, and their children, Denny, Tel and Tru Bauman, Ethan (Morgan) Hennessy, and their child, Jennings Hennessy, and Reese Hennessy; in-laws, Doris Erickson, Carol Thompson, Walter and Cynthia Thompson, and Beverly Knutson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Grace was preceded in death by: husband, Denny Thompson; parents, J. Leonard and Hilda Erickson; father- and mother-in-law, Walter and Marjorie Thompson; brothers- and sister-in-law, Donald Thompson, Darold and Marge Thompson, and Melvin Knutson; sister, Lucille (Bob) McBride; brothers, Floyd and Dale Erickson; niece, Linda Erickson; and nephews, Terry Riba and Tim Thompson.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2024, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood.
Burial: Eden Valley Cemetery, rural Sherwood.
