Hanora Marie Gates was born on a cold winter night in the south, upstairs bedroom, of the family farmstead just southwest of Loraine, to Francis and Teresa Gates.
She graduated from Mohall High School in 1951 and continued her education at Bottineau School of Forestry, Bottineau.  Although she loved forestry, she found her true passion was children, so she transferred to Minot Teachers College to pursue her dream of teaching elementary school.
On July 23, 1955, Hanora married Raymond Morin at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Mohall.  They parented four children, all boys.  The family settled in San Jose, CA, where Hanora finished her schooling and graduated from San Jose State University with a teaching degree.  She taught at St. Catherine Catholic School in Morgan Hill for 20 years.
After retirement, she would visit North Dakota often and enjoyed every minute; she really cherished her birth state.  She loved attending her grandchildren's, and later her great-grandchildren's, events.
Another place you could surely find her was at her church, Church of the Transfiguration, San Jose, where she was a devoted daily volunteer.  The highlight of her service at Transfiguration was their annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner and Dance, an event her family looked forward to each year.  Her door and (refrigerator!) were always open for guests, friends, and of course, family.
Family: Hanora is survived by three sons, Michael (Liana), Peter (Elizabeth), and Frank Patrick; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; many Gates and Bahl nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Jenny Gates, and cousin, Lloyd Gates.
Hanora was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Teresa; husband, Raymond; son, Daniel; two brothers, Don (Irish), Francis (Pete); two sisters, Delores (Don Bahl), and infant sister, Dorothy Jane, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Mass: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Mohall.
Burial: Mohall Community Cemetery, Mohall.
