TOLLEY – Joyce Atwood, 84, rural Tolley, died Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at a Kenmare hospital.
Joyce Annette Coughlin was born June 24, 1937, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Reverend J.O. and Theressa (Dahl) Coughlin.  She attended rural grade school in Deer Park, WI, Superior, WI, and Page, and graduated high school from Velva.   Joyce then attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN, and later graduated from Concordia College, in Moorhead, MN.  After college, she was employed as a parish worker for Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, and also a parish worker for Christ Lutheran Church in Minot.
Joyce married Justin Atwood on October 17, 1965, at Oak Valley Lutheran Church in Velva.  They built their home on the Atwood family farm north of Tolley.  Joyce was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Tolley, where she was organist for many years and also a dedicated member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (L.W.M.L).
Joyce's love for music began at an early age.  She started teaching piano lessons at the age of 15 and continued to teach many, many enjoyable lessons for over 65 years.
Family: Joyce is survived by her children, Shane (Jennifer) Atwood, Auburn, WA, and Shawna (Mark Smith) Atwood, Sherwood; grandchildren, Brytin Hauf, Max, Shelby and Gunnar Atwood, and Morgan Kuhn, Auburn, WA; siblings, Paul (Marlys) Coughlin, Bismarck, Joann McCoy, Fargo, Karen Pearson, Pueblo, CO, Bonnie (Don) Blair, Eagle, ID, and Beth (Mark) Zier, Hilo, HI; sisters-in-law, Lela Peterson, Reynolds, Arlis Atwood, Minot; brothers-in-law, Raymond (Shirley) Atwood, Powers Lake, Larry (Karen) Atwood, Minot, and Ernie Ward, Homer City, PA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins
Joyce was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Justin (2000); grandson, Justin Donald Hauf (2001); brothers-in-law, Bill McCoy, Wayne Peterson, Dale Atwood, Jerry and Charlotte Atwood; sisters-in-law, June and Albert Schmitz, Glee and Roger Grau, and Eileene Ward.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tolley.
Burial: McKinney Cemetery, rural Tolley.
