Matthew George Stark, 33, Tolley, lost his battle with depression on December 27, 2022.
Matthew George Stark was born on September 22, 1989, to David and Robin (Gilbraith) Stark. Matt was a kindhearted soul from the very beginning. He spent most of his younger years outside, walking around in in the coulees, fishing with Uncle George and Wes Wenker, and preparing for the Oregon Trail with Cody. It was always a sad day when he had to go to school in the fall. As Matt grew up he spent a lot of time with his Grandpa Les, learning as much as he could about guns and reloading. Matthew could recite ballistics and talk guns with anyone.
Matt graduated from M-L-S in 2008 and then went on to Williston where he earned a degree in diesel technology. Matt stayed in Williston for a couple years, working for RSC. When he got sick of the oilfield rat-race, Matt moved home to Tolley in 2012 and began working for Kenmare Farmers Union. While living in Tolley, Matt joined the Tolley Fire Department. After he moved home, he met one of Tolley's new residents who turned out to be the love of his life, Michelle Grant.
On October 27, 2015, Matt and Michelle were married in Las Vegas, surrounded by friends and lots of family. While living in Tolley, Matt and Michelle welcomed home their first two children, Zane and Henry. In March 2020, Matt and Michelle decided to try a new adventure, and moved to Lewistown, MT. While living in Lewistown, Matt and Michelle made their family complete with another son, Walter. Matt was able to fit in a lot of his favorite pastimes, big game hunting and fishing, around working at Hoeven Equipment. Matt was so proud to see his oldest son catch his first fish and his second son is sure to follow in Matt's footsteps with a love of hunting and fishing. He spent countless hours hiking in the mountings, sending back numerous beautiful pictures of big sky country. Matt was able to see the true beauty in nature, even saying once that he could easily sit in a tree stand all day with just a camera.
In 2022, Matt and Michelle decided they wanted to move back to North Dakota, and were so excited to be moving onto the Stark family farm by Donnybrook. Matt was just beginning to realize his dream of working for himself running a service truck and taking over the family farm.
