Phyllis Jean (Rhode) Pinnow, born on February 15, 1932, in Polk, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on December 21, 2024, in Minot, North Dakota.
Phyllis was born to Fred and Elsie (Sagehorn) Rhode; she was the 11th of 12 children.  After graduating college in 1950 Phyllis taught school for 2 years, shaping young minds with patience and care. On June 22, 1952, Phyllis married Richard F. Pinnow in Polk, Nebraska.  The newlyweds moved to Montana, to farm with Richard's father while additionally raising turkeys. In 1954, Richard began a new career in the construction industry; Phyllis negotiated a $.15 per hour raise for Richard.
Phyllis gave birth to her first son, Steven Richard, on September 23, 1956.  On April 10, 1958, they bought a Husky service station in Plevna, MT, and began a 23-year JI Case dealership, naming it Pinnow Tractor Inc.  Phyllis gave birth to her second son, Kim Kelvin, on May 28, 1960.  In June 1964 Pinnow Tractor Inc. moved to Baker, MT; Phyllis was the bookkeeper, accountant and Vice President, contributing greatly to the success of the business.  She also achieved a personal milestone on October 30, 1969, when she embarked on a solo flight in their airplane; a testament to her adventurous spirit and determination.
After 23 years, Phyllis and Richard sold Pinnow Tractor Inc. and moved to Brownwood Texas, where they bought and operated a motel for six years.  In 1987, the couple retired to Forney, TX, near many of Phyllis' siblings.  One of Phyllis's many hobbies was baking, bringing joy to all fortunate enough to share her table.  The Pinnow's were active members of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Rockwall, TX, where their faith was tested when Richard was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. With Richard's life nearing the end, he desired to move back to Baker, MT, for his last days, where he died on July 21, 1994.
After Richard's death, Phyllis moved back to Forney, TX, and enjoyed being close to siblings once again.  In 2010, Phyllis once again became a caretaker, moving in with her brother, Edgar, in Copperas Cove, TX, until his death in 2014.  Phyllis then made her final cross country move, to Minot, ND; where son, Steven and his family, lived.  She moved to Wellington Assisted Living Center, where for 10 years she was a social butterfly and challenged all to a game of cards.  Phyllis was blessed to have two great-grandchildren living in Minot, and they visited her often.
On November 10, 2024, Phyllis suffered a stroke that took 98% of her speech and all of her mobility.  She transferred from Trinity Health to Trinity Nursing Home on November 21.  At age 92 (51 days short of her 93rd birthday), Phyllis died of heart failure and peacefully breathed her last breath at 5:50 a.m., on Saturday, December 21, 2024; then standing before the throne of her Savior Jesus Christ in heaven, where she will spend eternity.  Phyllis' life was a testament to her resilience, intellect, and compassion.
