Raymond J. Stanley, 68, Minot, formerly of Sherwood, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at a Minot hospital.
Ray was born at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, SD, on November 24, 1952, the son of Robert J. and Byrle (Hanson) Stanley. Ray grew up in Sherwood and graduated from Sherwood High School in 1971.
Ray and Cheryl Hortness were married on July 5, 1975. Their daughter, Danielle Rae, was born on September 26, 1982. Ray managed a lumberyard in the Hortness Family Business in 1985 in Arcola, Saskatchewan. Three years later, they moved to Peace River, Alberta, then moved back to Minot to be closer to family. Ray worked for the Minot Public Schools as a bus driver for 30 years, retiring in 2017.
Ray was an avid hunter and enjoyed all sports, especially the Green Bay Packers. He was so proud of Danielle, son-in-law, Travis Podbilski, and granddaughter, Ashlyn, who was born on February 11, 2011.
Family:
Ray is survived by his wife, Cheryl Stanley, Minot; daughter, Danielle (Travis) Podbilski, Tacoma, WA; granddaughter, Ashlyn Podbilski; mother-in-law, Ella Hortness, Weyburn, Sask., Canada; sister Rondi (Rich) Kosel, Fargo; stepfather, Don Stewart, Sherwood; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ray was preceded in death by:
his father, Robert Stanley; mother, Byrle Stewart; brother, Owen Stanley; and father-in-law, Daniel Hortness.
Burial:
A private graveside service was held at Sherwood Union Cemetery, Sherwood.
