SHERWOOD – Richard Leroy "Richie" Mehus, 83, Sherwood, died peacefully Monday, May 16, 2022, at a Minot nursing home, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born October 17, 1938, in Sherwood, to Engvald and Grace (Albers) Mehus.  He attended and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1956.  He married Betty Grenvik in November of 1957.  Their marriage was blessed with five children, one daughter and four sons.  Their marriage ended in 1969.  At that time, Richie moved to the home farm with his five children.
Throughout his life, he did carpentry work, worked missile sites, and ultimately returned to farming with his father.  After retiring from farming, Richie became the assistant city maintenance man for his beloved City of Sherwood.  He took great pride in making Sherwood look beautiful.
Richie was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood, and the Sherwood Senior Citizens Center.  He loved lotto tickets, bingo and beating his friends and sons at cards.  He will forever be remembered as a jokester, a storyteller, a friend, a pet lover, a father, grandfather, brother and uncle.  Richie will be missed by all who were blessed to share in his life.
Family: daughter, Vicki (Kevin Merck) Larson, Minot; sons, Mike (Tammy) Mehus, Porterville, CA, Max Mehus, Minot, and Kelly Mehus, Sherwood; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; special nephew, Lynn (Carol) Mehus, Stanley; and special pets, Poochie and Flash.
Richie was preceded in death by: his parents, Engvald and Grace Mehus; son, Mark Mehus; and brother, Ron Mehus.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2022, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, rural Minot.
