SHERWOOD - Robert Herman Hanson, 90, Sherwood, peacefully joined "his angel," Lila, in heaven on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022.
He was born to Herman and Alma (Holt) Hanson on the family farm in Prosperity Township, Renville County, on May 30, 1932, the youngest of ten children.  He was educated at Prosperity Rural School.
Bob married the love of his life, Lila Kimler, on Oct. 10, 1953, in Carnduff, Saskatchewan, Canada.  They lived with Herman and Alma on the farm home the first year. In the fall of 1954, they purchased 240 acres from Harlan Schumacher and lived there until the fall of 1961 when they purchased the Tim Meekma farm and moved there.  Bob and Lila farmed hand-in-hand for over 52 years on this farm 10 miles west of Sherwood.  Lila passed away on Feb. 12, 2006.  Bob referred to her as "his angel" who was watching over us all.  He continued farming and ranching, with his sons, Greg and Shannon, until he entered the Good Samaritan Home in Mohall, in Sept. of 2022.
Bob was a long time member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood, serving as usher for many years.  He was a member of North Dakota Stockmen's Association for 56 years, the Border Saddle Club, the Border Sportsmen Club and held several positions on church, local cemetery and township boards over the years.  He also did custom combining in the South, Canada and for Sherwood area farmers, cattle trucking, grain trucking, snow removal and drove the school bus for many years.  He was a strong, hard-working man with a heart of gold.  He has been the Rock of his family and he will be remembered and greatly missed every day.  As a niece said "Uncle Bob was one of a kind. He was very special and it's so very hard to let go."
Family : daughters, Jacqueline (Gary) Beckedahl, Sherwood, Vicki (John) Rusch, Minot; sons, Robert Jr. "Herm" (Paula) Hanson, Shady Point, Okla., Greg (Tami) Hanson, Sherwood, Mike Hanson, New Castle, Wyo., Shannon (Jennifer) Hanson, Sherwood and Ron Mahlum, Lisbon; grandchildren, Bryan Beckedahl, Kerry Clark, Brad (Sarah) Beckedahl, Tana Hanson, Willy (Aubrey) Hanson, Jake Rusch, Cody (Natalie Procka) Rusch, Wyatt (Ashley Johnson) Rusch, Dalton (Emily) Hanson, Nicole Hanson, Lexie Bach, Allie (Sterling) Ostrander, Jessie (Josh) Martin, Chad Hanson, Tallen Hanson, Delaine Hanson, JayDen Hanson, Rhonda (Jim) Schwartzbauer and Tyler Mahlum; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; brother-in-law, Don Stewart; sisters-in-law, Verla Conrad, Lloyd Minster, Alberta, Eleanor Clark, Carnduff, Sask.; brother-in-law Dr. Ron Kimler,  Saskatoon, Sask.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by : his parents; wife, Lila Hanson; an infant son; and siblings, Glenn, Don, Wilma, Orlin, Bonnie, Byrle, Dora, Erlyne, and Orlin "Bill".
Funeral :  11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood.
Burial :  Sherwood Union Cemetery, Sherwood, in the spring.
Family Service :  7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at the church.
