Ronald Eugene Burner, 71, Lansford, passed away of natural causes on Monday, September 5, 2022, at his home.
Dad was born October 27, 1950, in Crosby, back when cars were steel, families were big, and life was bit slower. He was the first of six children born to Eugene and Delores (Evenson) Burner, and from all the stories heard, one hell of a brother. He went to Noonan grade and high school and graduated in 1969.
His first job was for Clayton at the Texaco. One story about his time told both by him, and his dad, Ron was working on some older tractor tires and either lost track or was trying to get the bead to seat. To make it quick, the tire didn't quite make it, the shop got a good dusting, and they found the bill of Dad's cap stuck in the rafters.
At the age of 21, Ron started with the city of Noonan being a police officer. He was a fair guy, except for maybe his favorite target to pull over, his brother Bruce. During this time, he had many side businesses. He was either raising chickens and pigs at the farm or hauling coal to the locals. He was always working and finding a ways to make a dollar.
Sometime in 1976, he gave up the small-town life and moved to Minot where he managed Behm's truck stop. After about nine years of that, Ron and Karen were getting tired of their jobs and decided to buy a bar.
In 1985, he returned to small-town life and bought the Homestead Bar in Lansford. For 30 years, they ran the Homestead Bar, hosting street dances, steak fries, a few games of pinochle and even the occasional shake of the dice. During that time, he had a couple of other business adventures also, The Lansford Café, Lansford Lanes, Bar None Bar and Steakhouse in Donnybrook, Bootleggers Bar and Steakhouse in Noonan and a few cows. This is a great example of his drive and work ethic. Anyone who knew Ron for any length of time would tell you once his mind was made up, it was not changing. That would be from the type of pizza he wanted to his political views.
Our family, our friends and our community lost one hell of a man. He may not have always agreed with you, but he would have always helped you. He was one the hardest working, loving and caring guys. That might sound biased, but ask anyone who has known him. We will miss him, always love him, and wish we could have one more visit, one more card game, or one more Diet Dew with him.
