LANSFORD - Ronald James Johnston, 72, passed away November 9, 2021, at Park West Assisted Living Center in Wichita, KS.
He was born September 8, 1949, to Ivar and Marlene (Davis) Johnston.  Ron grew up and spent all but the last year of his life in Lansford.
Ron graduated from Lansford High School in 1967.  He attended Minot State Teachers College. He worked for Warner Construction, Agsco, and painted on the DEW Line in Alaska to pay his way through college.  He earned his degree in Business in 1975, and January 1, 1976, purchased Leon Johnston's half of Johnston Chevrolet, to go into the family business.
Ron was member and past Fire Chief of the Lansford Fire Department for 50 years.  He was past Secretary-Treasurer of the Fire Protection District.  Ron was a charter member of the Lansford Ambulance and was an EMT for 33 years.  He was also a charter member of the Lansford County Ambulance Board for 20 years.  Ron was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. John Catholic Church, Lansford Threshermen's Association, an honorary member of the American Legion, and a charter member of the Lansford Jaycees.
Ron's love of golfing was started when he was six and he got his first set of golf clubs for Christmas in 1963.  This led to his membership in the Lansford Country Club where he served as President for 20 years.  He was also a member of Mohall Country Club.  He loved golf so much that in 2007, Ron purchased a share of Wildwood Country Club in Burlington.  Many hours were spent there not only golfing, but also cooking steaks for their banquets.
Another favorite hobby of Ron's was hunting.  He went on many hunting trips with friends for deer, moose, and elk.  But his real passion was hunting pheasant while enjoying the company of his friends and his precious dogs.  Ron was a lifelong member of Mouse River Loop Pheasants where he also served on the Board, and a member of Pheasants for the Future.  Ron started raising pheasants in 1998 for MRLP to be released into the wild.  Since 2000 he raised 1000 pheasants a year.
Ron treasured the friendships he made through his activities as much as he treasured his family.
Family: Ron is survived by brothers, Ross (Jeanne) Johnston, Derby, KS, and Kyle (Lisa) Johnston, Andover, KS; sisters, Karen (Leon) Boden, Ionia, KS, and Charlena (Jamie) Cavendar, Del Rio, TX; nephews, Shane Boden, Vinton, IA, Scott (Rachel) Boden, Goessel, KS, Jason Boden, Merriam, KS, and Alex DeGrenia, Austin, TX; nieces, Dawn Johnston, Derby, KS, Tonya Johnston, Derby, KS, Sheena (Jesse) Sobba, Wichita, KS, Mariah (Hunter) Womack, Wichita, KS, and Whitney DeGrenia, Houston, TX and 13 great-nephews and great-nieces.
